In the summer of 1864, a young man named Edward Everett died in Annapolis, Maryland. He was unmarried at the time and in his early 20’s. His father, Thomas Everett, took his son on a trip in the summer to visit his aunt, Elizabeth Everett, and her family in the south of France. After that trip, Thomas Everett wrote a letter to Elizabeth about his son. It was a letter that would define his life for the next 38 years.

According to Thomas’ letter, a ship carrying his uncle, a man named Francis, was captured by the Spanish. Thomas wrote that the Spanish had him shipped to a POW camp on one of their ships, where they made him do strange things, like eat a horse, which was probably just a joke. They then sent him to an island where he lived in the company of other prisoners.
The guy on that island, a guy named Thomas, got a phone call from the Spanish who were holding Francis. They wanted him to do something, so they wanted him to give his uncle a message for his uncle’s father. Thomas, of course, was having a hard time relating with one of the other prisoners, who was a strange guy named Edward.
It’s not just about the message, because being an uncle is also a nice thing because he gets to see his father before he dies. But Thomas was a real dick too. He told Edward that he should give the guy a message to go to the Spanish. You know, like a normal guy would? So Edward, who had a bit of a crush on Thomas, made him give the message.
Edward, of course, ended up in a car crash, was left a paraplegic, and eventually died because his father was also being punished for something. Thomas’s message was, “You didn’t know how to make a good man out of me. Now I’ve made you a bad one.
The message was sent in the form of a cryptic text, but if you were under the impression that Thomas was sending it to Edward, this is not actually the case. Here’s the text: Thomas, send this to your brother for me. Now, let me get this straight, you are now on Deathloop’s island with a bunch of other amnesiacs who all seem to have forgotten that they were ever on Deathloop’s island? That’s pretty creepy.
